The Importance of Portion Control

The Importance of Portion Control

We all do it at one point or another.

Whether it is just one more bite or saying to yourself “I might as well finish it” or having been raised in the dreaded ‘clean plate club’.

All terrible habits made worse by restaurants serving huge portions to begin with. But there is help.

MyHealthStyle Inc. was founded by the co-auther of Portion Size Me: A Kid-Driven Plan to a Healthier Family (you can read the whole story here), so Alex, our founder, and the rest of the MyHealthStyle team are highly aware of portion control.

Luckily, there are several easy ways to start getting into good portion habits. here are four easy ones to start with from this article.

  • Use smaller plates to make your food portion look larger
  • Eat your food in this order; Veggies, Protein, Carbs. That way you’ll full up on the good stuff first.
  • Measure by hand – Portion protein by the size of your hand, fruits, veggies and carbs by the size of your fist, and fats by the size of your thumb.
  • Single size it. Purchase pre-portioned foods in single serving containers to help you get used to the correct size of a single portion. Also, pre-portion any other food into single portions to make snacking the right size

Once you get started on the good portion size habits, consider signing up for the MyHealthStyle app.

For just $10 a week for the first four weeks (and then just $15 a week to continue), you will have three MyHealthStyle credentialed coaches helping you every day, guiding you a happier, healthier you. Visit http://www.myhealthstyleapp.com today!
